Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
