The England manager Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel shared his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not enjoy more support from the home crowd during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was pleased to see his team continue their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes deciding the match. However, he was unhappy with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half training days to prepare against a drilled team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional ones. It was quiet. There was no any energy back from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you deliver in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad deserved greater backing today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than being three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more support in periods where it is challenging.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to refocus, but it is what it is and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Display
Away from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by excluding Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the decision was validated by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is competing for his position.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who face Belgium in a key World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this match,” Bellamy commented. “I need to see our current level. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance gives me motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was withdrawn at the break after hitting a post and will be a doubt when the national team face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
